On Wednesday, April 16th, our team had the pleasure of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the newly established TEC Centro facility in Harrisburg. The event marked a significant milestone for TEC Centro Capital Region and its commitment to providing vital educational and training opportunities to adult learners in our community.

TEC Centro’s Executive Director, Robert Torres, highlighted the center’s mission, stating, “We offer adult basic education, which includes English as a second language, computer literacy, and allied health programs, which include medical assistance, phlebotomy, and certified nurse aid courses.” He also shared exciting plans for expansion, including a second-floor training space focused on skilled trades.

The ceremony brought together a diverse group of community leaders and stakeholders. We had the opportunity to connect with representatives from organizations such as The Burg, United Way, Capital Blue, UPMC, Penn State Health, Representative Justin Fleming, and Ruby Doub, Communications Liaison at Dauphin County. These interactions fostered valuable connections and opened doors for potential collaborations to better support Afghan, Ukrainian, Haitian, and Cuban communities.

We’ve already built a positive working relationship with TEC Centro, with several of our clients currently enrolled in their phlebotomy training program, which is nearing completion. Looking ahead, we’re excited to enroll more participants in their upcoming classes, including Allied Health programs and English as a Second Language (ESL) courses—both of which have already proven beneficial to many of the individuals we serve.

We’re enthusiastic about the opportunities TEC Centro brings to the region and look forward to continuing our partnership to help clients gain the skills and training needed for successful integration and employment.
